This piece, at its core, is about two things.
The first, and the impetus for the conception of the piece, was the
counterplay of identical timbres.
The opening theme is presented as a dueling of two flutes, which is
eventually transfered to oboes, trumpets, and beyond.
The second element is the realization
of a rhythmic style, that I've come to think of as "cascades",
in which a multitude of voices move in counterpoint with each other
with contrasting rhythmic personalities.
Violins Etc
This piece was completed during a tour with friend Christina
Schneider's band, Locate S,1,
and named after her song "Violence Etc".
As a Shadow
Completed in early 2019, As a Shadow was a further attempt to
employ the cascades rhythmic style
to distort baroque source material, as if through a caliedescope.
